Sylvia Anderson was the kindergarten teacher at Sprout House from 1987 until 2000.  Delightful, artsy, understated and so motherly, she made everything easy and almost whimsical.   With so much energy, she pushed for more and more field trips.  She knew plants and animals from her own New England  childhood.  Always speaking in a whisper, kids just felt so much comfort in her presence.

Sue Sikorski worked every job description at Sprout House from 1987 until 2001 and again in 2010-11.  Classroom teacher, part-timer, closing teacher, opening teacher and cook, she never refused anything.  She walked to work in the snow when other teachers couldn’t make it.  Kids picked up on her warm temperament and intellect and enjoyed all her activities and ability to supervise play in the most engaging, positive and supportive ways.

Claire Risucci helped to open Sprout House on day “one” in February 1986.   She worked without remuneration for 6 months.  (Then she was a sub for at least a decade.)  She made simple activities compelling, and by day two, all the sprouts were bonded to her.  Hurricane Floyd destroyed most of the Sprout House pics of Claire doing gardening and composting in the side yard but here is a pic capturing the joy she brought to Sprout House.
